Sunny Days

Posted in Uncategorized by Yolanda Chiaramello on July 4, 2009

I have been so comsumed in little Enzo, new Waters Chiaramello addition, that yesterday was the first day I picked up the camera and really enjoyed capturing all the little loons prancing carefree around the garden. Thank goodness for a bit of outside space. Made all the more enjoyable by wonderful company and scrummy biscuits made by my good friend and secret Nigella Lawson protege..Amanda. THANK YOU x

More Winter Weddings!

I actually photographed this prior to Celia and Robs. Sophia and Adam-But, had yet to upload. This was possibly one of the coldest-wet days we had had. However, we were granted a brief break for our outside shots. Set in the centre of  Windsor, in a rather grand Town hall, with hughly ornate paintings looming down on us.

Winter Weddings!

Posted in Uncategorized by Yolanda Chiaramello on December 10, 2008

I have always been a little apprehensive of winter weddings-a fear of rain ruining any potential outside shots. The cold winter tones on already pale skin…dark characterless rooms-having to use flash! Well, I am rather pleasantly surprised-Last weekend I photographed Celia and Rob’s big day in Kent, the weather was glorious- I mean cold, but the most incredible winter light. We were very lucky-not a grey sky in sight. Just rich warm christmasy colours-mulled wine-and mince pies! A warm and loving family-for a well loved couple! It was hard graft being 6 and bit months pregnant but I loved it! Thank you Celia and Rob! A sneaky peek for you!

Why I will always love photographs and the excitement of a new inspiration

Posted in Uncategorized by Yolanda Chiaramello on November 10, 2008

Remembrance Sunday for my old local rag-I have always loved photographing this historic-respectful event-I feel honoured to be able to walk freely and snap away at peoples intimate emotions. I didn’t feel like I was working at all as it was such a pleasure.  Made all the more special for me, when all the parade had headed off, and I remained snapping a few more generic shots…I heard this little voice “allo mummy…mummy working” My son bounding towards me very excited to see me with all my work paraphernalia. I felt proud. A good morning, finished off by a cheap bite on the Kings road and an introduction to the amazingly talented Jill Furmanovsky, rock photographer whose incredible black and white archival iconic images left me rather desperate to get into the dark room, and only shoot film!

Some of my selection from Sunday,

Where did summer go?

Posted in Uncategorized by Yolanda Chiaramello on September 19, 2008

I am feeling rather cold and miserable-having returned from the delights of the heat in southern Italy. Where, I was so very hot I couldn’t breathe in the airless heat! I am just collating all of The Grafton project-still waiting for some negs to be printed and a few more portraits-Which simply must be completed next week! Things really are taking a while, but I am really pleased with Grafton, it feels like a huge relief to look back at the last few months work.

Ready to start another project until the new Waters-Chiaramello arrival-and another new chapter!EEk…

My rather beaten notebook-in old skool style-Handwritten, no-less!

…finally Zoe who has made it all happen-

More time pls!!

I feel like my body is running, but my little legs can’t quite catch up! I had a slightly different week last week. Did some picture desk work for Time Out Magazine, which I really enjoyed. Fast paced, and working to deadlines, it reminded me of my good old newpaper days. I think when it comes down to it I quite like…for a short period…working with stress and pressure. Whilst I am still completing Grafton, I have been really enjoying again, the works of, Philip-Lorca diCorcia and Trent Park. I am longing for sunnier days.

Keep posted.. lots coming soon!

A busy month!

Posted in Uncategorized by Yolanda Chiaramello on July 26, 2008

It’s been a while again since I’ve had chance to update my blog. Which is good in one way, as things have been really busy, frustrating in another as I have so much I want to share, and annoying if I will keep shooting film, I have a back log of scanning! I am still in the process of editing my third Grafton portrait, Charlotte, which I took a gamble with and shot only on black and white film. I have actually developed them, and I am really pleased when a hunch works out..it never normally does in my case.

Last weekend I was up in Northamptonshire for my third Indian wedding, I love photographing them, as they are so vibrant, crazy and generally a huge affair. This one was a little unusal, as there were a whopping 4 photographers covering the big event. Something which I’ve not experienced before. But after a slighlty awkward start, it was all fine and dandy and everyone kind of forgot about the other, and completed their roles in harmony.

Here are a few of my favorites so far.. I still have a mamouth edit to do, I am feeling slightly daunted by the prospect!

Please stay tuned much more to follow. I hope you enjoy them!

Grafton Cont… Lauren

Posted in Uncategorized by Yolanda Chiaramello on July 1, 2008

Yesterday,  at around 730ish, after Jake had been bathed, put to bed,  a flying chat with Jim(hubby) was had, I dashed up to see Lauren for her portraits at her family home. I was cheerfully greeted by Lauren, her mum, younger sibling and dad. They live just a short distance from me, in a beautiful warm, open plan house. Lauren showed me around, and I decided on a few set-ups, aware I should not impose too much on their family evening.

We were lucky with the light, so decided a simple set-up in their garden, with one small flash on a half power, pretty much central to Lauren, should do the trick. I was keen to keep the “free” part key to the project, so asked Lauren to do a few leaps, which she did BRILLIANTLY! Lauren, is always smiling and so full of life, so I wanted to try to capture this, without seeming contrived. I hope she feels I have achieved this at least a little anyhow. She is a lovely girl. We had a lot of fun! Thank you to her family for their patience and support. I hope you like them.

The second is more serious, but I like it for what it is.

Grafton Cont.. 28.06.08

A bit of a sad day today! It was the last of my sessions with Zoe’s dance class. I have LOVED… the time I have spent there with the girls. They really did cement for me my belief in how important dance, exercise, or rather a passion for something is, especially when you are young.  It forms who you are as person in later years, how you approach things, your coping strategies.

Today we had a bit of fun,  the girls changing into outfits numerous times did improvised dancing, they couldn’t decide on leotards on or off, off or on, causing much tom foolery.  It really reminded me of my childhood dressing up days, of what I believe to be free -spirited, fun times, giggling, innocence, confidence. I have concentrated on trying to achieve an air of this through movement within the images, in the hope that it translates as “Free”. The blur is therefore of great importance to this project, as opposed to the images often associated with dance, posed and perfect. Children are not made of such things all of the time!

I hope you enjoy some of today’s session.

Even Jess the dog made it in!!

Some of my favorites, hope you like them too!
